My WildFit Surrey

Sports therapist Alex, 57, started working with Ollie at WildFit Surrey two years ago. Here she shares how training at WildFit Surrey has helped her develop a whole range of health and well-being benefits.

I knew as a Sports Therapist, if I wanted longevity in my career I would have to invest in my fitness, strength and health. WildFit Surrey is the best investment I
could ever have made. I was never a fan of gyms, always finding I’d get bored and unmotivated. But exercising outside was a whole new world and, if I’m honest,
slightly daunting – though I did love the fact that I could do it bare foot.

What I found almost instantly was that this tapped into my inner child who had long been forgotten.

“Could I climb a tree having not done it in 40+ years? YES! And it was fantastic. And embedded in the playfulness of it all, I found myself constantly challenged
mentally and physically, always stimulated, always having fun, and often laughing! What I can’t really explain is why mastering one of the assault course challenges is
so much more satisfying than upping weights in the gym ever was. When I finally mastered the rope ladder there was definite punching the air, whooping and yelling of ‘YES!’”

Designed to Suit My Needs

As to Ollie himself… well he has become one of my favourite people. Whether I arrive in a good mood or bad, high or low, feeling fit or wheezing, he intuitively
designs the workout that will work best for me on that day. I always, and I mean always, leave feeling like I’ve trained hard and improved – plus, I have a massive
smile on my face.

During the first six months of training, we did no traditional weightlifting with a bar at all (though we did lift quite a lot of rocks). So, when we decided to have a play with a bar and weights, I was amazed that I could lift the personal best (PB) I’d had six months previously, with ease. No bar work at all yet I was stronger – that was a revelation.

PS: Will update this when I’m 60 or have mastered the rope climb – whichever comes first…
