Spring into Nature
Spring is a great time at WildFit. Running water, birdsong, extra daylight and promise of warm sunshine!
Water
Yes it’s pretty wet at WildFit at the moment but that only adds to the experience. The ditch that is dry in summer is much more fun now with fast flowing water to jump, balance and swing over. Also, spending time near water brings balance and harmony to our emotions, improves intelligence, enhances creativity and soothes the soul!
Proximity to water is associated with many positive measures of physical and mental wellbeing, from higher levels of vitamin D to better social relations. “Many of the processes are exactly the same as with green space – with some added benefits,” says Dr Mathew White, a senior lecturer at the University of Exeter and an environmental psychologist.
Microbial exposure
These soil microbes, known as mycobacteria have been shown to have remarkable effects on our immune system and overall health. They stimulate the production of beneficial neurotransmitters like serotonin, which plays a key role in mood regulation and emotional well-being. When your skin comes into relationship with these microbes inflammation reduces, cognitive function improves, wound healing is enhanced, and we receive the gift of earth’s fertile soil through the sensation of scent and touch.

Daylight
With the clocks changing to British summer time and longer daylight hours coming to WildFit helps you make the most of it. Daylight helps to regulate hormones and the immune system. It’s good for sleep and can help with depression.
Stress Reduction
Outdoors also provides a unique opportunity for stress reduction and mental relaxation. The sights, sounds, and smells of the garden environment have been shown to lower cortisol levels, reduce anxiety and depression, and promote a sense of calm and inner peace where you can hear, know and see yourself more clearly.
